Ammonia is renowned for its remarkable ability to be easily liquefied into a clear, colorless liquid with minimal effort. This transformation is achieved by simply applying pressure at ambient temperature, boasting a critical temperature of 132.4ºC and a critical pressure of 11.2 MPa (or 112.2 atmospheres). With a boiling point of -33.5ºC, it is equally capable of being solidified into a snow-like, crystalline solid with a melting point of -77.75ºC. Highly soluble in water, ethanol, and ether, ammonia is a compound of great utility. At elevated temperatures, it decomposes into nitrogen and hydrogen, exhibiting a reducing effect. In the presence of a catalyst, it undergoes oxidation to form nitric oxide. Its applications are extensive, serving as a precursor in the production of liquid nitrogen, ammonia water, nitric acid, ammonium salts, and amines, among other important compounds.
