Ammonia can be easily liquefied into a colorless liquid. It can be liquefied by applying pressure at room temperature (critical temperature 132.4ºC, critical pressure 11.2 MPa, i.e. 112.2 atmospheres). Boiling point -33.5ºC. It can also be easily solidified into a snow-like solid. Melting point -77.75ºC. It is soluble in water, ethanol and ether. It will decompose into nitrogen and hydrogen at high temperature and has a reducing effect. It can be oxidized into nitric oxide in the presence of a catalyst. It is used to make liquid nitrogen, ammonia water, nitric acid, ammonium salts and amines, etc.
